Metodo Ilustrado de Flauta, 3rd Edition
by Celso Woltzenlogel
Published by Irmaos Vitale
This method has been written due to the encouragement of the important Brasilian composer Cesar GUERRA-PEIXE.
It aims at resolving the difficulties that many flute students have to face to pursue a course in the Conservatories, especially in the provinces, and the problems of acquiring and understanding foreign methods. We are therefore trying, by means of clarity of expression and ample illustrations, to motivate the student in his study of this, the most ancient of instruments.
Thus, this method takes the process of learning from the very beginning, starting with the care and maintenance of the instrument. This is followed by a series of breathing exercises which apply equally to the command of any wind instrument.
For the more advanced student there are chapters with studies in virtuosity and special effects used in contemporary music.
It is our intention in this method to fill a void in the study of syncopation as used in Brazilian popular music. For this end we have included a chapter entirely dedicated to the subject, with studies specially written by our most well-known composers.
To end with, there is a chapter dealing with the principles of repairing and repadding the flute which will enable the student to tackle almost all the problems which can arise in this connection.
The information contained in this book is not new, but represents years of study and experience obtained in orchestral playing and teaching.
Complete though it may be, a method can never be a substitute for the teacher with his warmth of human experience. Nevertheless, we hope that our modest effort will contribute towards the learning and art of performance of the flute in our country.
