Mimosa for Piccolo Solo by Hong-Da Chin

Spiral bound

Duration: 5:00

Extended techniques required: pitch bend, flutter tonguing

Program Notes

“Mimosa is any of various mostly tropical herbs, shrubs, and trees that have globular heads of small flowers with protruding stamens and usually bipinnate, compound leaves that are often sensitive to touch or light.”  The direct translation of Mimosa from Chinese is “shy grass”.  It’s named “shy grass” because the leaves are very sensitive to touch and when the leaves are touched, they would close to protect the plant.  This particular character of mimosas was the inspiration of the piece.

Performance Instructions

  1.    Play molto vibrato (m.v) in the indicated notes and play normal vibrato on other long notes.
  2.    Grace notes are always to be accentuated and played before the beat.
