Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Horn in F, and Bassoon
Mumblety-Peg (Children's Games) depicts five favorite games of children. The work begins with a short fanfare entitled, 'Call to Play.'
The movements are very descriptive, and the spirit of it should be familiar to children and grown-ups alike. The final movement, 'Musical Chairs' is so true to the game that errant players actually lose their chairs on stage. Finally, only the bassoonist is left, and that player makes the most of it, much to the chagrin of the rest of the players who finally end the composition in a show of musical force!
