Beginner to Elementary Level
Music by Black Composers (MBC) Flute Volume 1 contains 15 beginner and elementary-level pieces. The works are written by both men and women who come from North America (the United States), South America (Brazil), the Caribbean (Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Jamaica), Africa (Guinea, Ghana), and Europe (France, England), and the repertoire spans centuries—from purportedly as early as the 1500s to the present.
In addition to the music, Flute Volume 1 also contains illustrated composer biographies, features on Black classical music making throughout history, and profiles of Black role models in classical music past and present. Besides one piece which was originally written as a solo melodic work, each piece in Volume 1 has both a second flute accompaniment (included in this volume).
MBC Flute Volume 1 is designed to supplement the current instrumental training methods by providing students of all races and ethnicities a broader perspective of who has written classical music throughout history, and who is writing it today.
