Description
Nocturne by Martin Rokeach
For Piccolo (or Flute) and Piano
Duration: 4:00
“This Nocturne was completed a year after the tragic loss of my sister, and it is feelings associated with that experience which form the emotional backdrop of the work. The opening intervals are intended to express a feeling of yearning and should be played as legato as possible. The climax of the piece comes early, at measure thirty, and there follows a long period of winding down. The performer must take care not to let the work lose its energy too soon.” – Martin Rokeach
