Commemorating various concert tours of the Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra of the New England Conservatory, the Florida Flute Orchestra, and Flutes Ad Libitum, this work, in three movements, incorporates both original and traditional melodies. The above groups performed the World Premiere of this piece at the National Flute Convention in 2009.
1) 'Vive la France!' is a medley evoking the multi-faceted cpirit of France: Au Clair de la Lune, Sur le Pont d'Avignon, Fascination (Marchetti), and the Can Can from “Orpheus”.
2) 'The Emerald Isle' combines folk and original melodies: Dance of the Leprecauns (Louke), Connemara Jig (louke), Boatman of Kinsale (O'Neill), abd The Humors of Bantry (O'Neill)
3) 'A Yankee Doodle Dandy' theme and variations features the piccolo in the fife-and-drum style opening and and the 'Stars and Stripes' finale.
Scored for piccolo, 3 C flutes, alto flute (optional C part included), bass flute, and optional contrabass flute.
