Composer Gerald “Gerry” Fried (b.1926) has had a long and distinguished career in music, from playing in a major symphony orchestra to receiving honors and awards for his work as a composer in the entertainment industry. During the 1960’s he scored episodes of popular shows such as The Man from U.N.C.L.E., It’s About Time, Gilligan’s Island, Star Trek and many others. He provided music for over thirty movies, including the first four films directed by his high school buddy Stanley Kubrick. Fried has been nominated once for an Academy Award and five times for an Emmy, winning that award in 1977 for his collaboration on the TV miniseries Roots.
