Ouverture Miniature from the ballet The Nutcracker composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Arranged for Flute Choir by Nancy Nourse
Scored for Piccolo, 6 C Flutes, Alto Flute, Bass Flute, and optional Triangle
Includes score and parts
The overture reflects a quality of lightness and prepares a magical mood for the ballet, through its original orchestration which completely omits the darker colors of the cellos and string bass instruments. This work adapts exceptionally well for the modern flute choir, as the original key is maintained, and few octave transpostions are required. The Nutcracker ballet was written one year before the death of Tchaikovsky, and delivers a childlike joyousness so uncharacteristic of the state of his personal life at the time. There is an optional triangle part to this arrangement.
