Preface:
This arrangement of the Overture from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Magic Flute inaugurates a new series for winds including original compositions as well as arrangements for woodwind quintet and larger wind ensembles.
The woodwind quintet, a combination of instruments with great timbral variety and diversity, is exceptionally well suited in making large scale works accessible to the world of chamber music. Our edition, taken from the Magic Flute, follows in the footsteps of countless period arrangements for wind ensemble, many of them by the original composers. The only difference is that the wind quintet scoring is used as conceived in the early 19th century by the Franco-Czech composer Anton Reicha.
