Pan(ic) for solo flute
Composer: Gene Pritsker
Pan(ic) for solo flute is a an unbarred, free score depicting the mythical creature Pan. A short motif represents Pan, what he is playing on the flute in the forest, while around this melody extreme musical phrases represent the panic stricken people and creatures that have wondered into the forest and now hear Pan’s melody. The player, in effect, is both the fear and its cause, a schizophrenic monologue for the flute depicting more than one character. The difficulty level is advanced.
The word “Panic” derives from the name of the mythical god Pan. When walking through the woods, a person might hear his flute and become alarmed that this creature is near. The etymology of this word becomes plain when thought of in this context.
