The composer and organist Johann Martini was born in Bavaria in 1741, settled in France in 1760, and remained there until his death in 1816. He is not the same composer as the older Italian musician, Padres Giovanni Battista Martini (1706-1784), who was the teacher of Mozart and JC Bach. Martini held positions in the French royal court as well as at the Conservatoire. He was well-known for his operas, and is also credited with developing and reforming French military music. He is also best remembered for this song, which parts can be heard in the song “Can't Help Falling In Love”.
