A French composer of the 20th century, he studied composition, conducting and violin a the Paris Conservatoire. He is particularly noted for his wind writing, and his chamber music for winds shows great familiarity with the abilities of the instruments. He often demanded a great deal of technical skill, without losing the expressive, melodic style typical of 20th century French chamber music. This piece was written for the Radio France's 12th Concours Internationale de Guitare in 1970, and premiered there. There are three short movements, and has some extended technique in the second movement.
