The title Pounamu means greenstone which, in Maori terms may evoke the sea. This choral piece is inspired by the sparkling summer waters of Tasman Bay, Nelson, and explores resonances of Maori vowel sounds. The waiata that emerges halfway through is based on a Tainui Whakatauki proverb.
