He is an Italian composer whose operas are among the most frequently performed in the standard repertoire. He is also regarded as one of the last major Italian opera composers, part of the post-Romantic operatic tradition and literary style. La Boheme is considered one of his best works, as well as one of the most romantic operas ever composed. It is in four acts, and based on Scenes de la vie de boheme by Henri Murger. This aria is sung by Musetta in Act 2, as she comes upon her former lover Marcello, while with her current rich, older admirer Alcindoro is with her. She sings this risque song, When I go along, hoping to reclaim Marcello's attention.
