The Rhapsodies for Wind Quintet are essentially musical snippets, each capriciously conceived. No. 3, Healing Dances, alludes to homeopathic rituals still practiced among the “Forest Peoples” around the Central African region, and indeed with parallel traditions observed among the Native Americans, Eskimos and others. A series of divinations, séances, would be led by experienced seers – “medicine women/men” – often culminating in a communal dance frenzy.
