“When I was a teenager, I found a new wave of music from Brazil totally captivating. It was a fusion of jazz and samba known as Bossa Nova. As a guitarist, I found this music irresistible, its very essence originating on the nylon stringed acoustic guitar. My guitar heroes were Luis Bonfa, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, and Baden Powell. Influenced by these Brazilian masters, I wrote Samba. Originally composed for a small ensemble of guitar, percussion, saxophone, piano and bass, I recorded it on a CD entitled Heart's Song. I've since performed Samba with several different instrumentations. In this new version for flute and guitar, additional material has been added. This arrangement is dedicatied to the Bas Duo, guitarist Peter Press and flutist Elyse Knobloch.” – F.H.
