Gammes et Arpeges (Scales and Arpeggios) by Marcel Moyse (1889-1984)
480 Exercises for Flute
The present volume follows on from the collection of Daily Exercises and serves to compliment it. The major and minor scales and three- and four-note arpeggios included in this work are written in ten different forms and are variously distributed in the included table. The object of this table is to give directions for practicing these scales and arpeggios in a relatively short time. – approximately 12 exercises in half an hour – whilst at the same time providing regular variations of key. The student may practice these scales and arpeggios by following the horizontal sequence of numbers in the table. In this way they will therefore start with #1 – the first version in C major – and proceed to #134, where, on discovering the key or notes to which this #134 refers, they will play the exercise which precedes it accordingly. They will then proceed to #267, etc. All that is needed is to make a mark on the table against the number the student has reached, so that they may continue from the same point on the following day.
