“Silver Wind is the name of a flute choir made up of professional flutists from the Winston-Salem, NC region. It is also a description of the sound of nature in the three areas near my home depicted in this composition. Wolf Rock is a granite outcropping in Stone Mountain State Park, a place largely ignored by visitors to that park. It is the site of much of my best thinking and writing over the last decade. Cape Hatteras is the easternmost point in North Carolina. It is lovely and lonely in good weather, forbidding and dangerous in bad. The Blue Ridge is the mountain region to the west of my home. The third movement of this piece was inspired by a recent family reunion of my new in-laws in Galax, Virginia.” -Doug Borwick
