Description
Sonata in Bb Major by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) for Flute and Piano
Edited by Willy Hess
Among the many manuscripts which found their final home in the former “Konigliche Bibliothek” in Berlin (today called the “Deutsche Staatsbibliothel”) after an odyssey which began with the dispersion of Beethoven's estate, there is a very hastily written copy, not in Beethoven's hand, of a sonata for flute and piano in B flat major. Even today, the authenticity of the work has not been fully ascertained. The publisher and editor hope that this edition will allow flutists to discover a fascinating late 18th-century composition which is wothwhile in itself, even though it might not have been written by Beethoven after all.
