Realization of the figured bass for Sonata by Siegfried Petrenz

The question of the authenticity of the sonatas BWV1031 and BWV1020 – or in other words their attribution to J.S. Bach – remains unsolved. The sources for the Eb major sonata are unanimous in naming J.S. Bach as the composer. In the case of the principle source this attribution is in the hand of C.P.E. Bach. This may, as in other instances, be a case of collaboration between father and son. In all probability the g minor sonata was composed by C.P.E. Bach without his father's assistance. Curiously, all the sources designate this work as a violin sonata although the solo part never goes beyond the range of the transverse flute and never requires the violin's G string.
