New Orleans-born pianist and composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk enjoyed a considerable reputation during his lifetime for his virtuosic and often evocative solo piano works.
Gottschalk is considered by many to be one of the most important American composers of the 19th century. This arrangement is one of Gottschalk's most popular Caribbean-influenced piano pieces scored for piccolo, 2 C flutes, one alto and one bass flute. It may be performed effectively by either a quintet or by a flute choir.
