This piece was inspired by memories of my first visits to Sheffield, which were all railway related. In those days, as well as Sheffield Midland there was also Sheffield Victoria, home to the 'Tommy' Electric locos that worked the now closed Woodhead line. Something about the landscape of those days, (all steel related) and the hive of activity at the railway sttions grew into my subconscious, and when asked to write a piece of music that was for a Sheffield based group, everything came together in the title 'Steel City Shuffle' – lively, lighthearted and busy!
