Suite dans le style ancien for Wind Septet by Mel Bonis
Instrumentation: 2 flutes, oboe, clarinet, horn, 2 bassoons
Score and parts
I. Prelude
II. Fuguette
III. Choral
IV. Badinage
This “suite in the old style” was written by Mel Bonis in two different versions: in a version for piano, flute, violin and viola (or clarinet in B), published in 2005 by Edition Kossack (98017), and in this version for wind septet.
The work was not published during the composer’s lifetime. A 1913 manuscript for organ includes the first two pieces of the suite, Prélude and Fuguette; the manuscript of the septet version is undated; the quartet version was written in 1928.
The manuscript of the septet contains only the voices. Around 1950 – probably at the instigation of her daughter Jeanne Brochot – a calligraphed copy of the work was made, which contains the score and individual parts. These two versions form the basis of this edition.
