Summer Tern for Flute Choir by Emerson Eads
Score and parts
Instrumentation:
- Piccolo
- 2 C Flutes
- 2 Alto Flutes

- Contrabass Flute (or Contralto Flute in G)
Dr. Emerson Eads’s particularly lush, contemporary tonal language brings the flute choir to life in the three movements of his tone poem Summer Tern. The three movements – Summer Tern, Season’s Turn, and The Tern Returns – allow Eads to luxuriate in both solo voices supported by gorgeous harmony and in shining masses of sound as the entire ensemble moves as a cohesive voice, spread across the octaves.
