Assisted by Tim Carey, piano

Historical Commentary provided by Dr. Penelope Fischer

Argueably one of the most important musical figures in France during the first part of the 20th century, Philippe Gaubert was an extraordinary flutist, composer, teacher and conductor.  Trained in music theory and harmony at the Paris Conservatoire, Gaubert was deeply influenced by Debussy, Faure and Dukas.

Amy Porter, distinguished Professor of Flute at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance, has been praised by critics for her exceptional music talent and her passion for scholarship.

This collection contains full recordings of all 16 of Philippe Gaubert’s works for flute and piano, all of which were dedicated to friends.  The DVDs feature photographs of the dedicatee of each piece, along with a “Study Guide” (discussion about the piece and explanation of the form) and a performance of each piece by Amy Porter with pianist Tim Carey in the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium. A highly-anticipated, extraordinary celebration of Gaubert's works for flute and piano!
