Description
They Started Dancing for Flute Choir by Anthony Whittaker
Instrumentation: piccolo, 4 c flutes, alto flute, alto flute, bass flute
Score and parts
Written in 2015 for Liz Childs and the Bedfordshire Flute Academy, this is essentially an energic piece requiring plenty of vitality and drive behind its rhythmic motifs for a successfully performance.
The title suggests a group of people leaping into a vigorous dance; framed in an A B A structure, the middle part is reminiscent of a folk-like melody at a slower tempo, where the performers rest in a more graceful reflective fashion, before recapturing their earlier energy and moving towards a determined exciting conclusion.
