Description
3 Duets Op.1
Two scores
Composer: Stewart
Publisher: Trillenium Music
Instrumentation: Flute and Clarinet
A modern American composer, the three duets reflect the different musical concerns of simplicity, counterpoint, verticalities, use of popular or jazz idioms, accessibility and the ongoing flow of time. The first duet is a perfect canon, but with contrasting sections. The second duet is a “flamenco” in derivation, alternating an intensive melody with a brittle rhythmic background. The short and formly simple third duet may be more polytonal than the other two duets, as the spacing between the voices is carefully controlled.
