Among the numerous compositions of Viotti dedicated to string instruments include several collections of duets. Among these, the “Trois nouveaux concertans duo pour deux par Violoncelles composés Viotti” op. 6, later arranged for two violins, from which Gianella has drawn its version for two flutes presented here. Little is known of his youth by Luigi Gianella, or Giannella (Milan? 1778 – Paris 1817 approx.), Apart from the fact that since 1790 it is active as a flutist in the orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. A decade later, around 1800, Gianella moved permanently to Paris, where he played in several orchestras and theaters in the city where he reached a certain reputation as a composer, so much so that his ballets were represented both in Milan and in Paris. flute literature in the duo or duet is a very inspired practiced with examples of absolute beauty. This collection gives us three works happily delicate and expressive, the parties are dealt with balance between the two performers, the harmonies are never trivial.
