“…The present pieces with the title Kleine Sonaten (Short Sonatas), probably because of their “Italian” form with a consistent four movements, can be graded easy to moderately difficult. Because of their short duration they recommend themselves, even to beginners, as suitable performance material, advancing not only general accomplishments (technique, rhythm, intonation) and the ability to react in ensemble playing, but also a feeling for phrasing and form, in other words, the musical context. For more demanding players they may also serve as a practice material in unequal playing and other demands for stylistically correct presentation of French baroque music.”
