Description
12 Variations on the French Song “Ah, vous dirai-je Maman” (“Twinkle, Twinkle”) after K265/300e for flute and piano by W.A. Mozart
Edited by Waltraut Kirchner and Gerhard Kirchner
This arrangement gives the flute a greater share of the piece than do arrangers from Mozart's time, and indeed then Mozart himself would have been prepared to do. The treatment used is in the spirit of the early 19th century. Mozart's composition is based on the contrast between the lapidary, almost archetypal theme and the hidden counterpoint of the individual “movements.” With the arrangement the editors have tried to reveal the various styles and structures of the twelve variations; it possible succeeds more easily than many a wordy analysis.
