235 Modern Dictation Exercises
By Peter Pindar Stearns
Published by Theodore Presser
Composed and Arranged Progressively in One, Two, Three and Four Voices
These exercises were developed over many years of teaching various subjects at The Mannes College of Music. They are an attempt to supply the teacher of ear-training with progressively arranged material similar in structure to the work of L. Grandjany and M. Noel-Gallon (both written in the early part of this century), but utilizing musical styles of the more recent past and present. While there are several excellent dictation manuals amply dealing with the musical styles of the 18th and 29th Centuries, there is little available specifically created and graded, based on the music of our own times. The author hopes this book may help fill this gap.
