Velour
Composed by Jocelyn Morlock (1998)
For solo alto flute
Published by Avondale Press
Jocelyn Morlock is a contemporary Canadian composer. “Velour” for solo alto flute was written in 1988. The composer notes that the work was so-titled because “the sound of the alto flute and the feel of velour are, to me, similar (and pleasing)”. “The form of “Velour” is a set of five variations, followed at the end by a very simple theme.”
“Morlock's compositions tend to explore unusual timbres made possible by extended playing techniques, at times in combinations with relatively tonal or modal idioms.”
Performance notes by the composer include specific trills, interpretation of proportional notation, and suggestions for performance with live electronics (optional).
