Vinvino a te s'acqueta from “Andres Chenier”
Publisher: Adams Magnificent Music
Instrumentation: Flute and Harp
An Italian composer known mainly for operas, he was part of the beginning of Italian verismo (a post-Romantic operatic tradition that sought to bring the naturalism of influential late 19th century writers into opera). The opera Andrea Chenier is based loosely on the life of this French poet, who was excuted during the French Revolution. This aria is in the fourth act, sung by Chenier and his lover Maddalena. The ardent duet is sung after they meet at the prison before their execution. Maddalena proclaims that this is not a farewell, but an end to their suffering.
