Walpurgis – Fantasia for Alto Flute in G by Friedgund Gottsche-Niesser
For Solo Alto Flute (or Solo C Flute)
This fantasia for alto flute in G was inspired by the Walpurgis witches’ dance, a tradition found in the Harz mountain region of Germany. The timbre of the alto flute emphasizes particularly the mystic and ecstatic-wild elements of this kind of dance. Naturally, the fantasia can also be played with a great C flute. However, in this case a few passages will be too high for singing along.
