A modern American composer, he is recognized internationally as an outstanding composer of contemporary classical music. The title of this work is borrowed from the science of musical acoustics and refers to a succession of wave crests and troughs. The interaction of the lyrical melodies is reminiscent of the patterns created by intermingling waves on the surface of the water.
