What Wondrous Love
From Southern Harmony, 1835
Arranged by John E. Davis
Published by Alry Publications
Includes score and parts

Based on the American folk hymn “What Wondrous Love Is This, which was composed by the popular 19th century hymnist William Walker (1809-1875). This hymn made its first appearance in 1835 in a collection made by Walker entitled Southern Harmony, which employed the “shape-note” notation that is still employed in parts of the South. Scored for three C flutes, one alto flute (with alternate C flute part) and one bass flute (with alternate alto flute part), this arrangement may be performed effectively either one-on-a-part or with judicious doubling.
