We have some wonderful news to share: NYC Woodwinds and Flute World are joining forces, in New York City.
If you know us, you know that for years our two shops have quietly admired each other from across the woodwind world. Flute World has been the name flutists have trusted nationwide since 1983—a place where players of every level go for thoughtful guidance, an incredible selection, and that rare feeling of being truly understood. NYC Woodwinds has spent the past several years building something similar for clarinetists and saxophonists here in Brooklyn, with Grammy-winning expertise, close relationships with the world’s finest makers, and a repair bench that musicians across the city rely on.
We’ve always believed that the best things happen when people share what they know. So instead of staying in our own lanes, we decided to open the doors between them.
Here’s the truth about today’s woodwind players: very few of you stick to just one instrument anymore. Walk into any Broadway pit and you’ll see it firsthand—clarinetists doubling on flute, saxophonists covering three or four instruments in a single show. The old model of separate specialty shops, each narrowly focused on just one instrument family, doesn’t quite reflect how musicians actually live and work. So we built something that does.
Together, in our new shared atelier in Industry City, Brooklyn, you’ll find expert care for clarinets, saxophones, and flutes, all in one welcoming space—sales, repairs, and the kind of personal attention that comes from people who have spent a lifetime learning from players and makers around the globe and are passionate about sharing that collective knowledge and experience with you.
But this is about more than just instruments and accessories under one roof. It’s about building a real community. We’re planning masterclasses, concerts, manufacturer presentations, and educational sessions, all designed to bring New York City’s woodwind community together in one place to learn, play, and connect.
And here’s something we’re especially excited about: when you’re trying out an instrument, mouthpiece, ligature, or headjoint, you’ll be able to record yourself in the moment using high-end audio equipment and listen back instantly. Hearing yourself the way an audience would hear you, right there in the room, is an incredible tool—and as far as we know, no other shop in the country offers it.
We’ve always believed in sharing—our knowledge, our resources, our space, and our love of this craft. Now we get to share all of it with you, too.
