Any Questions?

Q: Why do I need Flute Care™?

Q: What is a COA service?
A. Every instrument should receive an annual Clean, Oil, and Adjust (COA) to guarantee optimum performance. This service includes removing all mechanisms, cleaning and polishing the instrument body and headjoint as well as disassembling, cleaning, and oiling all pinned key sections. In addition, we replace the headjoint cork, check all pads for integrity and replace as needed, re-shim pads as required, adjust springs, and regulate, align and adjust all mechanisms. Your flute will be play tested by one of our staff flutists and sanitized before it is returned to you.

Q: How long does the COA service take?
A. For a typical COA service we will have your flute in our shop for approximately 1 week.

Q: How do I schedule service for my flute?
A. For COA services, we ask that you call to schedule at least one month in advance of your desired appointment date. For emergency repairs, we will make every effort to accommodate your needs

Q: Does my flute really need to be serviced every year?
A. Yes! Every instrument should receive an annual COA to guarantee optimum performance. Leaks develop over time causing the player (often unknowingly) to squeeze the mechanism and work harder to play the instrument. Additionally, dirt and tarnish left unchecked can wear away at the pads and mechanism resulting in accumulated damage and larger repair costs down the road.

Q: Will my flute be covered for accidental damage?
A. Flute Care™ covers minor accidental damage. Severe damage will likely incur additional charges. This determination is up to the discretion of our repair technicians.

Q: Why should I pre-pay for servicing I may not need?
A. Because you WILL need it! Instruments are mechanical and mechanical devices need routine maintenance. Think of it like getting an oil change for your car. Plus – in addition to including your annual Clean, Oil, and Adjust, Flute Care also covers routine adjustments, free shipping, priority service, and free appraisals.

Q: How long will I be without my flute for servicing?
A. A typical COA service takes approximately 1 week to complete. Routine adjustments usually take 1-2 days to complete. Remember to include shipping times when considering how long you will be without your flute. If shipping is 2 days each way and a COA service takes 1 week, you can expect to be without your instrument for approximately 9 days.

Q: What kind of routine adjustments does my flute need?
A. The most common issues are leaks that develop in the pads over time and key to key adjustments. Sometimes it’s as simple as an out of place spring. Whatever the issue, simply contact us when you notice your flute is not playing its best and we will take care of it for you.

Q: Why do I need Flute Care™ if the flute is new?
A. Skilled maintenance is required to keep your flute playing at its best. Flute Care is the most convenient, reliable, and cost-effective way to keep your flute in optimum performing condition.

Q: Can’t I just take my flute to my local music store to get it repaired?
A. Flute World’s master technicians are specifically trained in the art of repairing and maintaining flutes and piccolos. These highly skilled, flute techs know how to optimize your instrument to perform at its absolute best.

Q: What will I spend to maintain my flute without Flute Care™?
A. When you total the standard full price of a COA, the cost of routine adjustments, paying out of pocket for shipping with carrier insurance, and appraisal fees, you could spend as much as $975 annually to maintain your flute.

Q: Do I need to renew Flute Care™?
A. Your plan will automatically renew on a monthly or annual basis unless you cancel your subscription. If you would like to opt out, please contact us at least two weeks prior to your next automatic charge and your subscription will be canceled. No refunds will be issued for any amount previously charged.

Q: Can I make monthly payments for Flute Care™?
A. You can choose to pay for Flute Care™ on a monthly or annual basis. If on a monthly plan, the annual Clean, Oil and Adjust service is only available after 11 monthly payments have been received. If Flute Care™ is canceled prior to making your 11th monthly payment of the year, you will not be entitled to an annual Clean, Oil and Adjust service.

Q: Can I have my flute serviced somewhere else if I have Flute Care?
A. Work done on your instrument by any other party (including yourself) may void your Flute Care contract. In addition, we do not reimburse for repair work done by other parties.

Q: Will Flute World reimburse me for repairs done locally if I have Flute Care™?
A. No, we do not reimburse for repair work done by other parties. Additionally, work done on your instrument by any other party (including yourself) may void your Flute Care contract.

Q: Will I get a reminder to send my flute for its annual COA?
A. You won’t receive a reminder to send in your flute for its annual COA, but you can schedule ahead as early as you like. For COA services, we ask that you call to schedule at least one month in advance of your desired appointment date. For emergency repairs, we will make every effort to accommodate your needs.

Q: Can I think about it and purchase it later?
A. To ensure that you are never unprotected, it is best to subscribe to Flute Care™ at the time of purchase.

Q: Why would I need an appraisal for my flute?
A. It is important to keep your flute protected with insurance and, in most cases, your insurance company will request an official appraisal to determine the replacement value of your instrument. In as little as a year or less, the replacement value for your instrument can go up leaving you underinsured if your insurance is not updated with a current appraisal.
