Dear Flutist!
Finger sports are important: your fingers learn how to collaborate nimbly and precisely. These flute pieces are meant to enhance your finger technique in a musical way. If you hold the flute in a well-balanced way, your fingers are able to move freely and make quick progress. Choose your tempo carefully in order to keep a good flute sound at all times; later, increase the tempo. Your breath, the air speed and your embouchure are very important in this. You will need help in order to ensure that your finger coordination is optimal – your flute teacher will be happy to provide this.
In this book you will find four pieces each in the keys of C, G, D, A, F, B-flat, and E-flat major; as well as four more with the chromatic scale. The range of these 32 miniature pieces extends to g”, twelve pieces are also provided with a varied melody and an extended range – but not beyond c”’.
The pieces are very freely configured. Sometimes you will find prescribed articulations and dynamics, sometimes you can decide yourself how you wish to play.
I hope that you will have as much fun in playing these as I had in writing them!
