This arrangement of Franz Schubert's ever-popular Ave Maria was arranged specifically for Flutes Fantastique, a flute quartet that specializes in performing literature that encompasses the entire flute family (piccolo, flute, alto flute and bass flute). The first statement of the haunting melody is scored for the alto flute, an instrument whose tone color is truly perfect for this composition.
