A Canzona is a contrapuntal work, here blending the styles of the late Renaissance and Early Baroque, epitomized by the Gabrielis in Venice and by Scheidt and others in northern Europe.  The Bergamasca is an Italian dance of the 16th and 17th centuries, originating from Bergamo in northern Italy.  This work is adaptable to performing groups from intermediate to advanced skill levels, assuming a majestic style at a moderate tempo and a brilliant crispness at a rapid speed.
