Originally scored for band by Grainger in 1919 from a piano solo while the composer was a member of the U.S. Coast Artillery Band, “Children’s March” is was generally accepted as the first band composition utilizing the piano. It is also one of the rare instances in which Grainger did not draw from traditional folk tunes for his composition. Includes an optional bass clarinet part to substitute for the bassoon.
