Description
A medley of Chinese folk songs dedicated to Linda Mintener and her work with the Chinese Orphan Project. This medley arrangement for flute choir was premiered in March of 2014 at a benefit concert for the Chinese Orphan Project in Madison, Wisconsin.
Program Notes from the arranger : This arrangement of Chinese folk songs was originally conceived as an arrangement for clarinet ensemble, and was written for the University of Tennessee Clarinet Ensemble for performance during a tour of China. As an arranger who usually does fairly literal arrangements of orchestral masterworks, this actually posed quite a daunting task for me. However, always liking a good challenge, I went to work and subsequently, I was quite pleased with the result. Many years later, I was asked by Linda Mintner to contribute a piece to be played on a charity concert for the Chinese Orphans Project. Thus, I adapted this arrangement for flutes! It is a medley of some short Chinese folk songs, based off of some simple piano arrangements. The most familiar tune of the set, “Jasmine Song”, concludes the pieces, and there are two endings to choose from. Enjoy! – Matt Johnston
