Notes on the Work:
      Fiery virtuosity is a hallmark of Antonio Vivaldi's violin works, and the Concerto for Four Violins, RV 580 is no exception. Taking my cue from none other than the great J.S. Bach, who transcribed this very work as his Concerto for Four Harpsichords, BWV 1065, I am pleased to present this transcription for four flutes. Based on an edition for four violins and piano by Charles Bouvet, the work largely translated beautifully to the flute. 
      You will find two versions here. Version A most closely resembles Vivaldi's original work, wherein the second and, especially, first violin parts are the most virtuosic. This version is suitable for performance by flute quartets with varying levels of experience. Where necesasry in these parts, I have suggested notes that may be replaced by breaths. However, you should feel free to change these as you see fit (not to mention articulations and dynamics, many of which are M. Bouvet's, rather than Signor Vivaldi's). 
      Version B is a reshuffling of sorts, intended for four similarly experienced players. The longers solos are split up amongst the parts, allowing all players more turns in the spotlight. Additionally, it should be noted that the challenges of breathing that come with Version A are greately alleviated here. The piano score contains Version A with italic indications marking parts that have been reassigned in Version B.
