Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) was a prolific German composer who composed more than one-thousand works during his lifetime. Primarily known as a composer of music for the church, his harmonization of Es ist ein Ro entsprungen (Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming) is included in many hymnals printed today. Of this surviving compositions, only one secular work remains, Terpsichore. His best-known work, Terpsichore is a collection of more than 300 instrumental dances, of which nine were selected for inclusion in this volume. Each movement is 1 to 2 minutes in duration.
