Each movement is intended to explore one specific challenge of ensemble performances such as intonation(involving various intervals), syncopation, rhythm, and shared articulation(both in unison and canon).  Jan Bach wrote this piece at the request of a former orchestration student for her senior bassoon recital at Northern Illinois University.
