“It may interest the performers to know that I came by a copy of this solo while visiting Albert K. Cooper at his home in southern London. His father was present at the meeting and over a cup of tea he gave me the music to this wonderful little solo. I hope you will have pleasure in playing it” – Sir James Galway
Mathieu-Andre Reichert was a virtuoso flutist and composer, influenced by and an influence to Brazilian music. The impeccable flute technique of Reichert’s, in contact with the Brazilian ginga of Joaquim Antonio da Silva Callado Jr., is assumed to be the origin of the Brazilian flute lineage. Reichert became inspired by the music of the Carioca choroes (choro players). His several compositions, especially his polka “La Coquette” are evidence of the assimilation of the Brazilian way of playing.
