An Italian Romantic composer, mainly of opera, he was one of the most influential composers of the 19th century.  Rigoletto is a three act opera based on Victor Hugo's play Le roi s'amuse, and is considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi's middle to late career.  In this fantasy, the flute has several cadenza sections, allowing it to showcase the arias from this famous opera.
