Strong double tonguing, a solid sense of rhythm, and a fluid chromatic scale are necessary to play this piece.
This piece depicts a ferocious tempest of fire: rapid double-tonguing passages such as the theme in the first eight measures and measures 57-61 represent biting, blistering fire, while slurred, chromatic runs represent swirling, turbulent wind. Additionally, the chromatic scales in measures 17-19, 28-29, and 64 are supposed to give a “falling” feeling.
