This book brings together numerous musical styles and genres from around the world, from the many faces of Afro-Latin Jazz to Celtic music and from alpine folk songs to Klezmer.  This really is World Music. 

The music of Central and South America was heavily influenced by African rhythmns during the American colonial period.  The result was aAfro-Latin Jazz.  The swinging Latin and African grooves in this book range from the Cha-cha to Boogaloo and will help you make a start with these curious styles. 

With the Scottish folk song My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean and the ballad Danny Boy we delve into the touching melodies and, at times, unusually accented rhythms of Celtic muisc.  The melodies and lyrics of these songs are inseparable and touch our souls in mysterious ways.  The words can easily be found on the internet. 
The Swing song Bei mir bist du schean was a number one hit in 1938.  The Yiddish title meansns something like “For me you are beautiful” and the song became a standard thanks to performances by countless famous musicians. 

The traditional dance song Der Weg zu mein Dirndl is stoani (“The way to my sweetheart is stony”) takes us on a short excursion to the world of alpine folk songs.  It is an old favourite, and not just played at weddings.  

The pieces in this book range from easy to moderate difficulty and all three voices are well balanced.  The original compositions and the arrangements of popular melodies bring new tonal and rhythmic elements into play so as to imporive technique and ensemble playing.  But above all, this lively and stylistically varied music is meant to be fun.  -Florian Brambock
